Asset Management
Oversees seized and confiscated assets, both conviction-based and non-conviction-based.
The Asset Management section is mandated to guide the management, use and disposal of seized and confiscated assets. It deals with both conviction-based and non-conviction-based confiscation.
The main goal of this section is to manage seized property so that it does not lose value before it can be confiscated, and to dispose of confiscated property in any way reasonably necessary to preserve it. To dispose of or manage seized property, the section has a mandate to become a party to any civil proceedings that affect the property, to ensure that all obligations in respect of the property are satisfied, and to deal with seized property that is perishable, subject to wasting or loss, volatile in value, or likely to cost more to store or maintain than it is worth. The section is headed by a prosecutor and consists of prosecutors with extensive knowledge of financial laws who are specially trained in financial modelling, reasoned decision-making and reporting.
