Witness & Evidence

Protects witnesses who face risk or intimidation for cooperating with prosecutors.

This section is mandated to provide special protection to witnesses who hold important information and who face potential risk or intimidation because of their cooperation with the prosecution and other law enforcement agencies.

The aim of this section is to promote the rule of law by enforcing applicable laws and providing special protection to threatened or intimidated witnesses, so that their security is guaranteed when they testify in court. The section also provides assistance to victims.

In addition, the section is responsible for systematically organising, cataloguing, recording, preserving, storing and analysing collected evidence in accordance with national and international criminal law standards, so that the evidence has the broadest possible usability and admissibility in fair and independent criminal proceedings before competent courts. The section is headed by a prosecutor and includes experienced prosecutors, investigators, paralegals and prosecution officers. They mainly respond to crime scenes and attend suspect and witness interviews and autopsies, and the section works closely with forensic science agencies.
